3. Usage/Application

The uses and applications of the Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan are very versatile. Perfect for grilling, smoking, steaming, or simply frying or cooking. The Satoo® requires an external energy source. This can be a gas cooker or gas stove, induction hob, electric cooker, coal stove, or even an open flame.
The temperature of the grill grate depends on the power of the respective energy source. Make sure that the energy source provides at least 8 kW to achieve perfect grilling results.

The following explains how to use the Satoo® for grilling, smoking, steaming, low & slow cooking, frying, or boiling.

GRILLING: Preheat your Satoo® and place or sprinkle glowing charcoal or wood chips on the grate. Then use a brass brush to clear the grate and push the charcoal or chips into the holes. Once the desired temperature is reached, place your steak on the grill grate.

SMOKING: Heat your Satoo®. Sprinkle wood chips onto the Satoo® and spread them using a brass brush. You can now place, for example, salmon (on a cedar plank) on the grill grate and cover it with the cloche.

STEAMING: Pour the liquid (e.g., wine) into the cold or lukewarm Satoo®. Then heat the pan slightly over medium heat. Now place, for example, shrimp on the grill grate and cover them with the cloche.

LOW & SLOW COOKING: Sprinkle the chips on the grill grate and spread them with a brass brush. Set the temperature and place your smoking goods on the grill grate. Finally, cover the Satoo® with the cloche.

FRYING/COOKING: Remove the grill grate. You can now use the pan body, for example, to fry eggs or to cook goulash and various soups.

4. Why the Satoo® Grill‑ & Flavoring Pan is the Perfect Solution

This brings us to the question: Is the Satoo® a pan or a charcoal grill? In our opinion, the best way to cook steaks is over a charcoal grill.

What is a charcoal grill?

A charcoal grill is a grate under or in which organic material, glowing charcoal, wood chips, dried herbs, etc., is heated and the food is cooked. The resulting dry and aromatic heat, which quickly sears the surface, preserves vitamins and nutrients, creates various roasted flavors through high temperatures, and maintains the juiciness of the food, ensures perfect consistency and irresistible taste.

Due to its high temperatures, the Satoo® is very powerful, allowing steaks to be grilled for only two to three minutes per side. Despite its compact size, the Satoo® can grill six filet steaks of 250g each at the same time. Even a 1.5kg tomahawk steak is no challenge. Energy consumption is highly efficient. With the Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan, you can always maintain the desired temperature for your preferred cooking method.

The heat from the stove is conducted upward. This is mostly contact heat with little convective heat. Thanks to the quick and easy regulation of the energy source, it is possible to switch between temperatures quickly and prepare various dishes. Whether high temperatures for the perfect steak or low temperatures for smoking — the Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan handles it all with ease.

To flavor your dishes, simply sprinkle a mixture of your favorite spices with some chips onto the pan. These spices can include, for example, bay leaves or rosemary. Flavoring with red wine — for example, when preparing shrimp — is also possible with the pan. Even without chips or charcoal, the Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan delivers excellent grilling results.

5. Before First Use

Rinse the Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan with warm water. Then dry it thoroughly with a cloth. To enhance the non-stick properties, you can season the pan. Apply a thin layer of vegetable oil or release agent to the Satoo®. Heat it over medium heat for about 20 minutes. Let the pan cool down and wipe off any excess oil with a paper towel.

6. Cleaning

Rinse the cooled Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan with lukewarm water. Remove the grate from the pan body. Use a brass brush for heavier soiling of the pan body. For cleaning the grate chamber, please use the included spiral brush. Wipe off any remaining residues with a sponge. After rinsing, dry the Satoo®, for example, with a cloth. To protect the coating and longevity of the Satoo®, rub the cast iron parts (pan body, grill grate) with separating fat or oil after cleaning. Spray the stainless steel parts with degreaser, allow it to work in, then wipe off the degreaser with warm water.

CLEANING BY PYROLYSIS: The Satoo® is capable of self-cleaning through pyrolysis. This requires a heat source of 500°C. Place the Satoo® on the stove and heat it at maximum power for about 15 minutes. Then turn off the stove and let the Satoo® cool down. After cooling, remove the grate and wipe the pan body and grate with a sponge or cloth. Organic residues that have turned to ash can be wiped out with a dry cloth. Finally, rub or spray the Satoo® with separating fat or vegetable oil.

Warning!
Do not clean your Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan with dish soap or in the dishwasher. Avoid using hard brushes, scouring pads, or steel wool. Do not shock the Satoo® with cold water. Avoid soaking the Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan.

7. Maintenance

Heat the Satoo® slowly to ensure even heat distribution. Use medium heat, as cast iron retains heat very efficiently. If the Satoo® Grill & Flavoring Pan loses its non-stick properties, you can re-season it as previously described. Apply a layer of separating fat or vegetable oil after cleaning to prevent rust formation. Store the pan in dry places.
